Four out of five of the current tourism staffers have declined to accept a job with the new city tourism department. The city is ending its tourism management partnership with the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, but those employees opting to leave the program rather than move to the city-run department which launches next month. The decisions of the employees who deal with tourism marketing and promotion were announced on Tuesday. The tourism industry is Lynchburg’s fifth largest employer; according to sources, the city spends about $1.3 million per year on its program. The changeover takes effect Jan. 1.
