

Two Amherst men are charged for allegedly growing marijuana. The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office says deputies located about 35 marijuana plants earlier this month along Scotts Branch Road. 43-year-old John Maddox is charged in connection with that find. And on Tuesday of this week, 52-year-old Jeffery Bryant was arrested on similar charges after officials discovered 23 plants growing near Dug’s Hill Road. The sheriff’s office says the street value for both finds is close to $70,000.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police, has made two arrests related to separate marijuana growing operations in the county. On 09/08/2016, law enforcement officers undertaking eradication operations located approximately 35 marijuana plants in the area of 180 Scotts Branch Rd, Amherst. The plants have a street value of approximately $42,000. John Franklin Maddox, 43, of Amherst was arrested for Manufacturing Marijuana for others on 09/08/2016 and transported to Amherst Adult Detention Center. On 09/20/2016, Jeffery Keith Bryant, 52, of Amherst, was arrested for Manufacturing Marijuana for others and transported to the Amherst Adult Detention Center. His arrest stems from the same eradication operation. Law enforcement officers seized a total of 23 plants from Bryant’s grow near Dug’s Hill Rd in Amherst. The plants have a street value of approximately $27,600.
