Between 2010 and 2012, Rt. 221 between Graves Mill Road and Gristmill Drive saw three times the wrecks of similar roadways in Virginia. On Thursday, traffic planners release the results of a survey that showed the heavily traveled corridor faces ongoing congestion and safety concerns. Specific recommendations haven’t been decided yet, but officials have already suggested synchronized traffic lights from Forest to Lynchburg. According to the News & Advance, the final aspect of the study will address other forms of transportation along the route. Cost estimates and funding sources along with a list of improvement ideas will be presented in March.
