The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a winter storm watch, saying the jet stream favors plenty of heavy wet snow expected to begin tomorrow evening. If weather patterns continue on their current track, according to experts, the system puts the region in the zone for heavy snow with high accumulations possible. Areas seeing up to 6-12″ …includes Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell counties as well as the city of Lynchburg. Some portions of those localities could see up to 14″ before the snow it completely gone by Thursday evening. Sources say Central Virginia hasn’t seen any significant February snowfall since 2012 when some parts of Lynchburg received up to 7 inches of snow.
