The 150th anniversary of the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse is coming in April and the Virginia Department of Transportation says motorists should anticipate additional traffic and delays during the multi-day and multi-location events. Heavy traffic may occur from Wednesday, April 8 during the arrival of many of the re-enactors and other participants through Thursday, April 9, the actual anniversary with re-enactment of the surrender and into Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12. VDOT says several roads will share the brunt of the traffic: Routes 24, 26, and 460 in Appomattox County, as well as, Route 131- Old Courthouse Road and Route 460 Business in the Town of Appomattox. Signs, message boards and other traffic controls devices will be used to alert motorists to changes in traffic pattern and possible delays.
