VDOT TO RESCHEDULE PUBLIC HEARING FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT ON ROUTE 668 (GOODE ROAD) IN BEDFORD COUNTY

SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation will reschedule the previously announced public hearing for a proposed project to replace the Route 668 (Goode Road) bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in Bedford County.  VDOT had announced that the hearing would be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Goode Volunteer Rescue Squad located at 9261 Forest Road in Goode.  VDOT will reschedule the hearing sometime in 2015 to allow for further evaluation of design options.

VDOT HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT ON ROUTE 668 (GOODE ROAD) IN BEDFORD COUNTY

SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing for a proposed project to replace the Route 668 (Goode Road) bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in Bedford County. The bridge is located in the Goode area, 0.27 mile north of Route 702 (Prophet Road) and 0.36 mile south of Route 840 (Pilgrim Road).

The current bridge was built in 1932. It is a one-lane, three-span steel girder bridge with wooden floor beams. The proposed two-lane bridge will be a three-span steel girder bridge with a concrete deck and rail.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Goode Volunteer Rescue Squad located at 9261 Forest Road in Goode.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project. The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until October 24 by mailing them to Mr. Brett Elledge, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 3071, Salem, VA 24153. Comments also can be emailed to saleminfo@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 668 Bridge Bedford County Comment” in the subject heading.
