According to recently released data by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles the number of fatal automobile crashes across the state dropped last year. Officials say the same holds true in Campbell County where vehicle related fatalities dropped from the year before. In 2013, there were four fatalities in County; two of which were alcohol-related; four were unbelted but none were in speed-related. There were 16 fatalities reported for Campbell County in 2012. Distracted driving and driving without being belted in continue to be concerns for law enforcement. According to the Altavista Journal, the sheriff’s office, while not primarily focusing on traffic safety, does do targeted patrols.
