Water customers in Madison Heights will see a slight increase in their water bills come the first of the year. The Amherst County Service Authority last month approved the rate adjustment. The authority provides water needs for more than 6,000 customers. According to the New Era Progress, the water bill is made up of the commodity charge, or the amount of water the customer uses, plus the basic service fee. County officials say even after the rate increase, it still will remain lower than those of other water-providers in the Lynchburg region. The rates will take effect on the Jan. 1 billing and will apply to all customers; Sewer service charges will also increase.
