no smokingYouth smoking rates in Virginia have plummeted to an all-time low. More than 15,000 middle school and high school students were surveyed at 245 public schools statewide in the fall 2013. According to the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth the percentage of high school students who are regular smokers has declined by more than 61 percent – from 28.6 percent in 2001 to 11.1 percent during the 2013-14 school year.
