Rich Roth and Poplar Grove Director of Golf Tracy Newman discussed the recent renovations at Poplar Grove, the shifting dynamics between the PGA and LIV tours, and how technology and “YouTube golf” are changing the sport’s culture.

Returning after eight years, Newman described the course as being in “primo” condition despite recent weather. He emphasized significant club investments, including 20 truckloads of new sod and bunker renovations he called the best in his 50-year career. Architectural changes were also made to hole #14 to improve accessibility for shorter hitters.

Newman discussed professional golf trends, suggesting players may return to the PGA Tour for better competition on traditional American courses. He noted that the transition to 72-hole events would significantly stress LIV players accustomed to 54 holes. Although appreciating traditional golf, Newman admitted enjoying the “laid back” atmosphere and in-course music at LIV events.

The segment ended with Newman announcing a no-initiation fee promotion for new members through the end of March and encouraging golfers to focus on balance and stretching to prepare for the 2026 season.
